UNC Hospitals Magnet Initiative
Welcome to the home page for the UNC Hospitals Magnet Initiative! The Department of Nursing is excited to begin the journey to Magnet designation, a prestigious award that is given in recognition of a proven level of excellence in nursing care. The Magnet Recognition Program® was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to recognize health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and uphold the tradition within nursing of professional nursing practice. The program also provides a vehicle for disseminating successful practices and strategies among nursing systems.
Our initial Magnet application doucment was submitted in July of 2005. We now have two years to complete our application process. During this time, a committee comprised of nurses throughout the organization will be working to craft a document that describes multiple varied examples of the outstanding work that nurses accomplish every day at our institution. We will update this site often as the work progresses and we have opportunities for YOU to get involved!
