Emergency Services

Welcome to the home page for Emergency Services at UNC Hospitals! UNC Hospitals serves the people of North Carolina as a major statewide referral center and designated Level I Trauma Center. We are one of only five Level I Trauma Centers in the state. Health care providers and hospitals throughout North Carolina and the surrounding region send patients to UNC Hospitals for the high levels of specialty and tertiary care provided.

The emergency department facility is divided into three clinical areas: the primary acute care ED, Minor Trauma, and Children's Urgent Care. An Urgent Care Center, which treats adults patients with minor illnesses, is also located within the same area. This center is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and supported by the ED triage staff but managed and staffed by physicians and nursing staff independent of the ED.

Special thanks for visiting the Emergency Services website.

Sincerely,
