N.C. Neurosciences Hospital Inpatient Psychiatry
Welcome to the home page for the N.C. Neurosciences Hospital Inpatient Psychiatry! The goals of Inpatient Psychiatry Management are to continue to deliver high quality, comprehensive, and holistic care to our patients and families at a reasonable cost; to continue to create a positive workplace environment where staff is valued, have input into their work, and thrive professionally.
The Psychotic Disorders Unit located on 3 Neuroscience (NSH), is an 18-bed adult unit designated for the diagnosis and treatment of psychotic disorders. The interdisciplinary treatment team conducts comprehensive patient assessments and provides targeted treatments, including medications and other psychiatric interventions.
The Crisis Stabilization Unit, 4NSH-North, is a 15-bed adult unit which provides for crisis resolution and maintenance of safety for patients with a variety of psychiatry diagnoses. The interdisciplinary treatment team completes rapid, comprehensive assessments and goal-directed treatment planning.
The Geropsychiatry Unit, 4NSH-South, is a 15-bed unit that specializes in diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders in older adults. The interdisciplinary team focuses upon restorative care, helping the patient achieve the highest level of functioning possible.
The Child Unit,
5NSH-South is an 8-bed unit which serves children ages 4-12 and the
Adolescent Unit, 5NSH-North, is a 10-bed unit which serves adolescents
ages 13-17. The interdisciplinary team utilizes a variety of modalities
to diagnose and treat a very wide range of psychiatric disorders in
children and adolescents. Families are heavily involved in the
treatment process and patient/family education is a pivotal
intervention.
The Eating Disorders Unit also located on 5NSH-South, is a 10-bed unit
that focuses on the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa
in patients between the ages of 14-24. The interdisciplinary team based
treatments provides evidence-based treatments such as
cognitive-behavioral therapy and specialized group treatments such as
media awareness, body image, and healthy eating. Patients may also
participate in the Intensive Day Treatment and Outpatient Treatment
components of UNC Hospitals Eating Disorders Program.
We invite you to spend some time getting to know all of us and the great work that our staff is doing at the N.C. Neurosciences Hospital.
Sincerely,
