Radiology Nursing

Welcome to the home page for the University of North Carolina Hospitals Radiology Nursing team!

Radiology nurses perform a variety of nursing duties and responsibilities in an atypical specialty patient care setting that requires unique skills and versatility.

The RNs in the Radiology Department are cross-trained to provide care in the following modalities: Computed Tomography (CT), Diagnostics (Adult and Pediatric X-ray), Breast Imaging, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Vascular/Neuro Interventional Radiology, Procedural Recovery Unit (PRU), Endovascular Clinic, Wound Care Clinic & Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO).

These nurses work independently to provide specialized nursing treatment and care to a diverse population of acute, critical and non-acute patients. The duties include administering medications, (including moderate sedation and anxiolysis), monitoring and managing patient crisis, & patient education. Radiology nurses oversee patient care in a technically oriented environment. Thorough knowledge of patient assessment is required as the patient population spans every age and a wide variety of disease entity on any given day.

I am very proud of the diverse team of RNs who provide quality care in the Radiology Department and Clinics.

Sincerely,

JoAnn Belanger, RN
