Our People
Dr. John Corey grew up in rural upstate New York. Before receiving his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Delaware and his master of science in industrial health from the University of Michigan, he worked in the field of Occupational Safety and Health for 10 years. He then received his medical degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Corey completed his residency in Family Medicine at UNC, serving as chief resident his final year. Dr. Corey is board-certified in Family Medicine and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at UNC. Dr. Corey and his wife, Denise, have four sons.
Dr. Woody Burgert grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. After completing his undergraduate studies as Vanderbilt University he spent three years in New Your city doing medical research. He graduated from the University of Florida college of Medicine, and complete residency training at the UNC Family Medicine residency program. He joined Pittsboro Family Medicine in 2002. His wife Jessica is a family physician in the Air Force and is also a graduate of UNC's residency program. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and is a Clinical Instructor through the UNC Department of Family Medicine.
Leslie Sharpe, FNP, was born in Florida, but moved to the mountains of North Carolina when she was a teenager. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has been a registered nurse for 15 years. The majority of her experience has been intensive care and hospice nursing. She also served as an Air Force nurse for six years. Leslie completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program at UNC and joined Pittsboro Family Medicine in August 1999. Leslie enjoys teaching health promotion and disease prevention. She also performs well-woman physicals, as well as adult, adolescent, and child well and sick care.
