The UNC Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Rex is proud to provide consultation and coordination of care for high risk pregnancies in association with obstetrical providers at Rex and in the surrounding communities. Located in the Rex Family Birthing Center, UNC Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians work as a team with Genetic Counselors to provide: - Screening for chromosomal abnormalities and birth defects including
- Preconception and early pregnancy recommendations for parents with medical conditions or problems during a previous pregnancy
- Inpatient consultation for women admitted to Rex with high risk conditions such as preterm labor
- Advanced fetal diagnostic testing including CVS and amniocentesis, as well as advanced ultrasound imaging
- Coordination of care with obstetricians in the community for pregnant women with problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, twins or triplets
- Diagnosis and coordination of care for babies diagnosed with birth defects
- 24/7 phone consultation for Rex obstetrical providers
- Coordination with UNC hospitals for invasive fetal procedures such as percutaneous umbilical cord blood sampling PUBS.
