"Heels in Motion" making great strides

More than 1,000 Triangle residents have found a way to get into shape in a safe, comfortable environment - for free! Sponsored by UNC Health Care and the Streets at Southpoint Mall, the "Heels in Motion" program has exceeded all expectations. Since its start in February 2003, the "mall walkers" have walked more than 170,000 miles.

The mall opens its doors for walkers Mon.-Sat. at 8 a.m. and Sun. at 10 a.m. As part of the program, UNC Health Care sponsors a guest speaker at 8:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month to discuss health and fitness. Chick-fil-A hosts each talk and provides a complimentary  breakfast beginning at 8 a.m.

Following each talk, a fitness coordinator from the Wellness Center at Meadowmont takes the group through light stretching and exercises. Participants from all walks of life are encouraged to use the mall to get back into shape, get together with friends or take a casual stroll along one of the mall's two marked routes.

The Streets at Southpoint is conveniently located on Interstate 40 in Durham, five minutes from Research Triangle Park, 10 minutes from Chapel Hill and 20 minutes from Raleigh, Cary and Raleigh/Durham International Airport.  Click here for directions.  For more information, call Southpoint's Welcome Center at (919) 572-8808.
