Study #1: Bulimia Treatment

Group therapy at no cost

The University of North Carolina’s Eating Disorders Program is conducting a research study to treat bulimia. Eligible patients will receive group therapy specifically designed to reduce binging and purging at no cost.

Patients will receive 16 sessions of group therapy and will participate in either face-to-face group therapy or online therapy with a moderated chat group.

You must be at least 18 years old and have a home computer with internet access to participate.

Study #2: Dietary Supplement Study for Binge Eaters

Do you struggle with over-eating? Do you sometimes eat large amounts of food in short periods of time? Are you overweight and distressed about your binge eating?


If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study designed to investigate the effects of a dietary supplement on eating behavior, mood, and appetite.

Here is further information about the study:

  • Free study-related dietary supplement taken daily for 6 months
  • 10 visits to UNC Hospitals over a period of 10 months
  • Visits last 1 to 3 hours
  • Interviews and questionnaires to assess eating behavior, mood, etc.
  • Blood draws to assess appetite-related hormones
  • Confidential
  • $385 for study completion plus parking during study visits

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18 to 55 years old
  • If female, not postmenopausal, pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
  • Overweight
  • Current binge eating symptoms
