Nutrition & Food Services
Your meals are important to you and to us. If you are on a diet that allows you to select your own food while in the hospital, you may choose your menu for each meal from a variety of foods. If, for medical reasons, you are on a special diet, you will be given food choices that meet specific dietary guidelines set by your doctor. Menus are delivered to you and picked up daily by a member of the Nutrition/Food Services staff. Nutrition education is available for patients with special needs. The department provides professional consultation by clinical dietitians who work with patients, doctors, nurses, and other patient care team members to provide education and nutritional information.
Patients will receive meals at the following times:
| Breakfast | 7:15 a.m. - 9 a.m. |
| Lunch | 11:15 a.m. - 1 p.m. |
| Dinner | 4:15 p.m. - 6 p.m. |
| Late Trays | 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. |
The department also provides meals and snacks for staff, visitors, and students through the Grapevine Cafeteria (2nd floor, Brinkhous-Bullit Building), Neurosciences Cafeteria (2nd floor, Neurosciences Hospital), and Coffee Shop (Ground floor, Main Hospital Building). A variety of dining options are available to UNC Hospitals patients, family and staff.
In addition to the following listings, vending machines are located throughout the hospitals and the Ambulatory Care Center.
The Terrace Café
1st floor of N.C. Children’s Hospital, overlooking ground floor lobby (beside the sculpture).
Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Services: Full breakfast, including Starbucks coffee and omelet station. Lunch and dinner options, including BBQ, pizza, fresh sandwiches, salads and homemade desserts.
Corner Café or Coffee Shop
Ground floor, straight down from the Children’s Hospital Entrance.
Hours: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Services: Full breakfast, including made-to-order waffle bar. Lunch options include authentic burritos and made-to-order sandwiches.
EspressOasis Coffee Bar
Connector between N.C. Neurosciences Hospital and N.C. Women’s Hospital
Hours: Monday – Friday: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Services: Coffee, lattés, smoothies, hot chocolate, muffins, Danish, croissants, biscotti.
