UNC Rehabilitation Center 2011 Report Card
In 2010, the UNC Rehabilitation Center served 597 patients.
UNC average age = 57
National average age = 66
The average number of days a patient was in our facility was 15 days. The national average was 16 days.
The UNC Rehabilitation Center measures how much improvement (or functional change) our patients make throughout their stay. This is referred to as Length of Stay Efficiency. We consistently average higher than the national average in this category. This means we are working hard with our patients to maintain an optimal length of stay while providing the best care to increase independence.
Over 78% of our patients returned to the community last year. This is 9% above the national average!
The top 5 diagnoses admitted to UNC Rehabilitation Center
include:
1. Stroke
2. Debility
3. Spinal cord injury – other than trauma
4. Trauma – with brain and/or spinal cord injuries
5. Brain injury – other than trauma
We are proud to share our accomplishments with everyone!
From January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010, the UNC Rehabilitation Center cared for 597 patients.
The average age of our patients was 57 years old, compared to the national average age of 66. The average length of stay (LOS) was 15 days, which was lower than the national average of 16 days.
LOS Efficiency is a measurement of a patient’s functional change as related to their length of stay.
Our LOS efficiency of 2.23 was higher compared to the national average of 2.14.
This indicates that our services are increasing functionality while maintaining an optimal length of stay.
Our top 5 diagnoses include: Stroke, Debility, Spinal Cord Injury – other than trauma, Trauma with brain and/or spinal cord injury, and Brain injury – other than trauma. These diagnoses comprise 64% of our total patient population. Upon discharge, 78.6% of our patients returned to the community, which was significantly better than the national average of 70.2%. In accordance to CMS guidelines, 60% of all admissions to the UNC Rehabilitation Center must have one of the 13 Rehabilitation Diagnoses. Our rate for this time frame was well above the 60% requirement.
