UNC Health Care raises its minimum wage to $10 an hour
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - On Friday, Sept. 16, UNC Health Care's board of directors announced that the salaries of the system's lowest-paid workers will be raised to a minimum of $10 an hour or $20,800 a year.
This change will go into effect during the payroll period beginning Oct. 9 and will show up in paychecks issued Nov. 2. It was made in response to a directive from UNC Health Care CEO Dr. William L. Roper, in accordance with a similar directive from Dr. James Moeser, chancellor of the University of Carolina at Chapel Hill, to adjust the salaries of the lowest-paid workers in the university and UNC Health Care to that level.
All employees with permanent appointments, including time-limited permanent appointments, are eligible for the new minimum wage of $10 an hour with the following exceptions:
* Employees with any type of active Final Written Warning are not eligible for an adjustment.
* If the Final Written Warning is either removed or expires, the employee may be considered for wage adjustment on a current basis.
* Employees in a bona fide Training Progression Program will receive adjustments according to the existing program plan, but must be at $10 an hour at the completion of the program.
* Temporary employees are excluded from the adjustments.
