Duke Energy names and funds new waiting area in the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center

CHAPEL HILL - On October 26, Duke Energy will present a $300,000 check to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center to create a new waiting area at the treatment facility. The Duke Energy Family Waiting Area will provide a comfortable space for families who may have traveled great distances to be near a loved one being cared for at the regional center.

”The successful treatment and recovery from burn injuries can take many weeks, often creating great hardship to patient’s families. We hope this waiting area provides some small comfort to them during a very difficult time,” said Ellen Ruff, president of Duke Energy Carolinas.

“We are so appreciative of Duke Energy’s generous contribution in making this much-needed waiting area a reality for our families and visitors,” said Dr. Michael Peck, medical director of the Burn Center.

The check presentation will be at the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center Advisory Board meeting at the Carolina Club on the UNC campus. The check will be presented by Duke Energy officials, including Davis Montgomery, customer relations manager at Duke Energy, and James Bowden, general manager at Duke Energy.

This month marks the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center’s 25th anniversary. The center is one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast and averages 600 inpatient admissions and 3,500 outpatients clinic visits per year. The Burn Center is a multidisciplinary, 21-bed specialty care facility with an experienced and dedicated staff.
