Chris Ellington named a ‘CFO of the Year’ by Triangle Business Journal

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Chris Ellington, MBA, executive vice president and chief financial officer at UNC Health Care, is one of 17 winners named in the Triangle Business Journal’s CFO of the Year Awards.
Ellington was a winner in the Large Nonprofit Company category. The award was presented to him Thursday, July 15 at the awards ceremony at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. In addition, his accomplishments are featured in a profile story in the July 16, 2010 issue of the Triangle Business Journal.
“Our CFO of the Year Awards were launched as a way to reward and recognize the best performing finance executives in the Triangle,” says Charlene Grunwaldt, publisher, Triangle Business Journal. “This year’s winners have displayed a remarkable track record of professional achievements and nonprofit involvement, and our community is better off for their many contributions.”
Ellington, 44, lives in Cary, N.C. He earned his B.S. in accounting from Clemson University and his MBA from the University of Phoenix. He and his wife, Lee, have been married for 19 years and have two daughters.
Before joining UNC Health Care in 2008, Ellington served as vice president of fiscal services and chief financial officer at Appalachian Regional Healthcare in Lexington, Ky. He has also previously worked in similar positions at hospitals in Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Ellington serves on the Policy Development Committee of the North Carolina Hospital Association (NCHA) and is an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
