Lindsey named executive associate dean for clinical affairs and chief of staff
As the executive associate dean for clinical affairs (EADCA), Lindsey will report to the School of Medicine’s new executive dean, Marschall Runge, MD, PhD. As EADCA, Lindsey represents the dean as necessary on matters relating to the clinical activities of the faculty of the School of Medicine.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
B. Anthony (Tony) Lindsey, MD, has been named UNC School of Medicine’s executive
associate dean for clinical affairs and UNC Hospitals’ chief of staff.
Lindsey will transition to this role in early August.
Lindsey was named an associate chief of staff in July 2009. He also
currently serves as the vice chair for clinical affairs and the
director of medical student education for the Department of Psychiatry in
the School of Medicine. He has served as a professor in the Department
of Psychiatry since 2001.
As the executive associate dean for clinical affairs (EADCA), Lindsey
will report to the School of Medicine’s new executive dean,
Marschall Runge, MD, PhD. As EADCA, Lindsey represents the
dean as necessary on matters relating to the clinical activities of the
faculty of the School of Medicine.
The EADCA also chairs the Teaching Physicians Oversight Committee,
responds to patient inquiries, communicates important clinical
information to all clinicians, works closely with clinical chairs, and
leads the Health Care System Professional Liability Insurance program
as chair of the Liability Trust Fund Council.
As UNC Hospitals’ chief of staff, Lindsey will report to Gary Park, UNC
Hospitals’ president. Lindsey will chair the Medical Staff Executive
Committee and represent the medical staff at the Health Care System
Board and in the strategic planning process. He will also oversee
medical staff appointments, reappointments, awarding of clinical
privileges, and peer review.
Lindsey earned a BS in chemistry and biology from Trevecca College in
Nashville, Tenn. He received his MD from the East Carolina University
School of Medicine and completed his residency in general psychiatry at
UNC Hospitals, serving as chief resident and clinical instructor in his
final year of residency.
After completing his residency in 1988, Lindsey returned to the UNC
School of Medicine in 1989 to serve as an assistant professor in the
Department of Psychiatry. He then moved up to associate professor in
1994 before becoming a full professor in 2001.
