    Rotation Description:

    This rotation allows the resident to become an integral member of the multi-disciplinary Medical ICU team. Focus will be on recommending appropriate drug therapy and monitoring plans for complex medically-ill critical care patients. Common disease states encountered include septic shock, COPD, respiratory failure, pneumonia, pulmonary hypertension, GI bleeding and drug overdose. Patient populations include CF, oncology, renal and hepatic failure. Opportunities exist for precepting PY4 pharmacy students as well as providing a didactic session for the medical staff.

    Preceptor for: Neurosurgical Intensive Care

    Rotation Description:

    This is a one month rotation in which the resident will be directly involved in the clinical management of the neurosurgical and critically ill neurology patient. The month may include precepting responsibilities for PharmD students in conjunction with the primary preceptor. The goal is for the resident to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of disease states and pharmacotherapy commonly encountered in the Neurosciences ICU as well as primary literature related to the this ICU patient population. Residents will gain competency in the perioperative management of surgical patients, basic neurophysiology and anatomy, critical care pharmacotherapeutic principles, advanced ICU physiologic monitoring, overall ICU patient management, and multidisciplinary communication skills.

    Preceptor for: Cardiology and Critical Care

    Rotation Description:

    The resident will be exposed to and assume responsibility for the medication management of patients immediately post-cardiac surgery (CABG, valve replacement, aortic root repair, ventricular assist devices [VADs], heart transplantation) and those with advanced, low EF heart failure (many of whom are being evaluated for surgical therapies, or are re-admitted with complications post-surgical therapies.) Cardiac surgery patient care rounds are from 0630-0715 daily, followed by advanced HF rounds from 0830-1200. Afternoons will be spent in direct patient care/topic discussions, or in the follow-up of patient care issues.
