Recreational Therapy-Geriatric Acute Care
Recreational therapists provide treatment services to older adult patients as part of the N.C. Memorial Hospital Geriatric Acute Care Program. Once a physician's order has been received, the therapist completes a comprehensive assessment addressing all functional domains. A treatment plan utilizing:
- exercise
- sensory stimulation
- discharge planning
- stress management/relaxation
- expressive arts
- coping skills or reality orientation
- emotional self-regulation skills
is then implemented to reach treatment goals. The team's primary focus is improvement and maintenance of functional status to reduce debility caused by hospitalization.
