Recreational Therapy-Geriatric Acute Care
Recreational therapists may be consulted to provide treatment services to older adult patients as part of the N.C. Memorial Geriatric Acute Care Program. Once a physician’s order has been received, the therapist completes a targeted assessment to determine the patient’s individualized treatment needs.
The recreational therapy team’s
primary focus is to improve the patient’s ability to manage pain,
anxiety, distress, and behaviors that interfere with
care. Patients may also experience delirium when hospitalized and
recreational therapists may be consulted. Recreational Therapists
may also provide insight into the patient’s motivators and interests to
keep them engaged and mobile while hospitalized.
