N.C. Children's Hospital Play Facilities

N.C. Children's Hospital Play Facilities: Play facilities, including the Play Atrium, The Teen Activity Center, the Music Room and the play-waiting areas, provide pediatric patients with a healing environment where a variety of opportunities are provided to assist children to adjust to hospitalization and to continue normal development. To provide safe and therapeutic play opportunities, play facilities are supervised by professional staff who also assess and provide children with specialized interventions to address play needs.

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation's Robbie Page Play Atrium: The

Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine  at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Robbie Pageinitiated the recreational therapy program in pediatrics in 1956 with support from the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Sigma Sigma Sigma established the Robbie Page Memorial, a national philanthropy that supports play for hospitalized children, with the goal to "make a child smile". With support from Sigma Sigma Sigma, the Robbie Page Memorial Playroom was constructed in 1958. Since that time the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation has funded many facilities, specialized programs and the training of many graduate students and fellows. The Robbie Page Play Atrium replaces the Robbie Page Memorial Playroom and provides children with a unique indoor park.
