Department of Recreational Therapy-Rehabilitation
Recreational therapists are members of the interdisciplinary team in the UNC Rehabilitation Center that treats patients with disabling conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and orthopedic conditions. Based upon assessment of the physical, cognitive, emotional and social domains, and interdisciplinary treatment planning, recreational therapists use:
-
motor and mobility skills training
-
cognitive retraining
-
stress management
-
relaxation
-
community reintegration
-
emotional self regulation
These treatment interventions are facilitated by recreational therapists to help the patient develop the skills necessary for independent living in the community.
