Group Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in bringing your group to volunteer at UNC Health Care! We ask that you complete the application form and return it to jskoff@unch.unc.edu at least two weeks prior to your anticipated volunteer day. We will review your application and the activity you would like to bring and schedule your group. We cannot schedule your activity until we have a completed application. You will receive confirmation by email that your activity time has been approved.  Please view the calendar at the bottom of this page in order to see what dates and times are available.

Due to laws regarding patients’ privacy, each member of your group will be asked to complete a confidentiality form and a group activity volunteer contract. Paperwork may be completed and returned before your group volunteers, or it can be turned in at the time of your volunteer shift.

All volunteers who are scheduled for the Pediatric Play Atrium will need to meet 15 minutes before your scheduled volunteer time at the Information Desk in the Children’s Hospital Lobby to pick up a visitor’s pass. A staff person will be paged and escort your group to the play area. If a member of your group is not present when a staff person escorts your group to the floor, that individual will not be permitted to go to the play area. Everyone must be escorted to and from the play area at the same time; therefore, we ask that the entire group remain throughout the planned activity. Please ensure that all of your group members receive a visitor’s pass. You will not be allowed on the pediatric unit without it.  In addition, volunteers under the age of 18 are not permitted in the Pediatric Playroom.

A few rules per UNC Health Care policy:

• Volunteers are not permitted to take photographs of any patient.
• Volunteers are not permitted to bring any type of food to patients.
• Volunteers under the age of 18 are not permitted in the Pediatric Playroom.
• Volunteers are not allowed to plan activities that are religious in nature.
