Who Is Eligible for Home Health Care?
Your doctor may recommend home health care if you’re:
- Homebound, or unable to travel
- Recovering from a serious illness or injury
- Recuperating after a complex surgery or procedure
Your doctor must certify you require home health care before your first visit. On-call services or homecare visits by request may be available with your community UNC Health provider.

If you need help with daily tasks or household chores, ask your local UNC Health home health services provider for a referral to a personal care agency in your community.
Most private insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicaid, cover home health care for homebound patients or those with medical needs. Contact your insurance provider or UNC Health if you have questions about your coverage.
