To better serve the LGBTQ+ members of our community, UNC Health is committed to practices that ensure equity in care as well as an inclusive culture for team members. These practices include: 

  • Providing continuing education and ongoing training developed with the National LGBT Health Center and recognized by the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index   

  • Celebrating Pride Month across the healthcare system and the school of medicine, including activities to increase awareness of gender diversity and the importance of pronouns 

  • Recognizing and responding to healthcare disparities impacting members of the LGBTQ+ community 

UNC Health Resources

  • UNC Children's Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic for Gender Wellness
    This gender clinic provides care to children and adolescents with concerns and questions regarding gender identity. Our multidisciplinary team includes a licensed social worker, a pediatric endocrinologist and a pediatric psychiatrist and psychologist.
  • UNC Urology Department: Urology Services for Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals
    This clinic provides urological services to transgender and gender-diverse patients including primary gender affirmation services and revisions after surgery in a compassionate environment. We have experience managing the most complex urologic cases.

  • UNC Transgender Health Program
    This program assists patients in need of gender-affirming care, helping them to navigate the healthcare system and connect to medical, surgical and mental health services with gender-affirming providers. We act as a primary point of contact for transgender patients at UNC Health.

  • UNC Psychiatry Gender Equity and Wellness Initiative
    This initiative provides evidence-based care for gender diverse individuals (ages 4 to 30 years) as well their families. We support those exploring or undergoing gender-affirming treatment and provide support and consultation during any phase of transition.  

  • UNC Health’s Financial Assistance Program
    This page provides information about who qualifies for financial assistance, the cost of copayments and the 40 percent discount for uninsured individuals.
