UNC Rehabilitation Center
If you or your loved one is recovering from a disability due to accident or illness , we are here to help at each milestone.
Our mission is to improve, restore and maintain functional abilities in patients with disabilities, educate health care professionals in rehabilitative care and services, and advance rehabilitation research.
The UNC Rehabilitation Center Advantage
Patients benefit from our interdisciplinary team of professionals and also from immediate access to UNC’s breadth of medical and educational services. UNC Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) faculty are an integral part of the UNC Health Care System and supports its philosophy of community service throughout North Carolina and beyond. Additionally, our rehabilitation team consistently receives national and international recognition for their excellence and commitment to patient-based clinical care and research.
Additionally, UNC Rehabilitation Center has been reaccredited for three years by Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International, a human services accreditation agency. This accreditation represents the highest level awarded and demonstrates UNC Rehabilitation Center's commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality. Notably, CARF surveyors made no recommendations, signifying that the on-site reviewers did not identify any areas of nonconformance to the standards. We are proud to say that according to CARF this is "an extraordinary accomplishment, only the top three percent of CARF surveys result in no recommendations".

The Rehabilitation Center's continuum of services includes inpatient care, sub-acute services and outpatient clinics, as well as hospital and community support groups. Our Rehabilitation Center treats individuals from adolescent to adult with a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, the following:
"We are proud that 96% of our patients admitted recieve an average of three hours of care, five out of seven days a week or an average of 15 hours weekly over the past year. We are also proud that 78% of the patients that come to UNC Rehabilitation are able to be discharged back into the community. This is significantly higher than the national average of 74% for patients being discharged from rehabilitation centers."
