Pediatric Audiology at UNC Hospitals

The UNC Hospitals Pediatric Audiology Program provides diagnostic and rehabilitation services to infants and children with a wide range of hearing disorders. Our Pediatric Audiology Team has the expertise and technology to identify and diagnose hearing loss within the first weeks of life. We also provide a comprehensive intervention program to promote communication development by ensuring children have access to important auditory information. The UNC Hospitals Pediatric Audiology team works in conjunction with otolaryngologists from the UNC Ear and Hearing Center to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

The UNC Hospitals Pediatric Audiology Program provides the following services:

  • Newborn hearing screening
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing
  • Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) testing
  • Comprehensive hearing evaluations including: Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA), play audiometry, and conventional audiometry
  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflex testing 
  • Digital, programmable hearing aid fittings and electroacoustic evaluations
  • Earmold services including earmolds for hearing aids and swim molds
  • Bone anchored hearing aids (BAHA)
