Kristel Maes, MPT
Kristel Maes, a native from Belgium, joined our team in 2011. She graduated in 1999 with a Masters in Physical therapy attained at the Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium. She is a Diplomate in the McKenzie approach (also known as Mechanical Diagnose and Therapy). This is a specialization in the treatment of spine disorders, particularly disc and nerve problems. She is one of less than 400 therapists worldwide to hold this degree. Kristel brings with her many years of experience in the outpatient field where she always was considered as the “spine expert”. In her first years after graduating, she worked in different settings such as an outpatient rehabilitation facility and a private practice in Germany and Belgium. She also worked for the US Army in Germany and an orthopaedic clinic in Savannah, Georgia. She enjoys working with patients and her goal is to educate them in regards of their problem, teach them self management (how to treat and manage their pain themselves), and prevent recurrences.
Jay Mosesson, PT, DPT
Dr. Mosesson graduated from California State Northridge in 1989 with a degree in PT. He then earned his doctorate of physical therapy from the Arizona School of Heath Sciences with a 4.0 GPA, in 2013. His terminal project there was on the use of mirror therapy for complex regional pain syndrome. He is currently doing similar research on virtual reality mirror therapy for chronic low back pain. Prior to his arrival at UNC in 2010, he owned physical therapy clinics in Northern California for 12 years. He worked in physical therapy venues of two Olympic games, and with the Redwood Empire Ballet Company , the San Francisco Symphony musicians, and the Offense-Defense football camps.
His post-graduate education included Therapeutic Neuroscience
Education, MDT prerequisite course for certification, Australian manual
therapy coursework, osteopathic training, segmental lumbar stability,
and self treatment for cervical herniated discs. Dr. Mosesson is
an avid swimmer, runs, and lifts weights. He studied
international relations at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, and is
competent in both Japanese and Spanish.
Keith Compson, PT, Cert. MDT
Originally from Upstate New York, Keith graduated in 1999 from Daemen College in Buffalo, NY. He has achieved certification in the McKenzie approach (also also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy) through The McKenzie Institute, USA. Keith specializes in the treatment of back and neck pain using the McKenzie Method and also has over a decade of experience treating sports injuries, balance and gait disorders, and wide range of orthopedic conditions. Outside of the office, Keith is an avid cyclist, skier and runner. He also enjoys coaching his sons’ soccer and basketball teams.
