Important new information regarding Ebola precautions:
If you have traveled to Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea or if you have had contact with a suspected or known case of Ebola, we are asking you not to volunteer until after a 21 day incubation period.
Thank you for your interest in bringing your group to volunteer at UNC Health Care! We welcome Group Volunteers to our Pediatric Play Atrium! We ask that a group leader click on the link at the bottom of the page to apply for your event and allow at least 2 weeks for your application to be processed. Prior to filling out a volunteer application form, please make sure your group can comply with all of our requirements. Available times are listed as "Peds Playroom." As most of our groups are affiliated with UNC-CH, groups must complete new applications each fall school year.
You will receive confirmation by email after your activity time and activity are approved. If you are interested in volunteering in the Pediatric Play Atrium, please view the calendar at the bottom of this page in order to see what dates and times are available. Only 6 volunteers are able to be accomodated for each shift. We ask that individuals only volunteer once a semester. Volunteering in the Play Atrium requires a planned arts and crafts activity other than coloring books, board games or reading books.
Patient privacy, confidentiality, and infection control are extremely important at UNC Medical Center.
Current Hospital Volunteers and Hospital Employees do not need to complete any of the following steps, but must bring their Hospital ID to the Pediatric Play Atrium when volunteering.
All other group volunteers, please turn in the following to the Pediatric Play Atrium when you volunteer, each time you volunteer.
- Complete the HIPAA Training. Print out the completion email you receive.
- Print and sign the Group Activity Contract.
Pediatric Play Atrium volunteers need to meet at the Children's Hospital Information Desk 15 minutes prior to their scheduled volunteer time to pick up a visitor's pass. We ask that the entire group remain throughout the planned activity.
A few rules per UNC Health Care policy:
Volunteers are not permitted to take photographs of any patient.
Volunteers are not permitted to bring any type of food to patients.
Volunteers must have graduated high school and be at least eighteen years of age .
Volunteers are not allowed to plan activities that are religious in nature.
If you have any questions, please contact our office. Once again, thank you for your interest in volunteering at UNC Health Care. We look forward to receiving your application!
